- Monterey, California - During the fur trade of the 18th and 19th

less than 2000 otters can be found off California's central coast.
Since January 1977, US Fish and Wildlife Service has placed sea
otters on the Endangered Species list. This makes them protected
by state and federal laws. Friends of the Sea Otter (FSO) is an
advocacy group dedicated to actively pressuring state and federal
agencies, not only to maintain the current protections for sea otters
but to increase and broaden these preservation efforts. We wish
to inspire the public at large about the otters unique behavior
and habitat.

- Whales are large, magnificent, intelligent, aquatic mammals. They
breathe air through blowhole(s) into lungs (unlike fish who breathe

through the water. They are the only mammals, other than manatees
(seacows), that live their entire lives in the water, and the only
mammals that have adapted to life in the open oceans.
