Fairbanks - A Taste of Alaska Lodge -
The lodge is situated on 280 sunny hillside acres, 15 minutes from Fairbanks. Massive spruce trees were logged from the homestead and crafted into the unique structure of A Taste of Alaska Lodge. The 7,000 square foot natural log building, completed in 1995, is decorated with antiques and Alaskan collectibles. In 1947 the original 160 acres was homesteaded by Walter and Dorothy Eberhardt who developed the land for farming. Walter continues to farm it today (2001) at age 79.

The skier begins at a summit elevation of 5,800 feet and drops 1700 feet in less than two miles to the bottom of a narrow canyon where he meets up with his snowmobiling partner. The snowmobiler meets the skier, on the go, with a tow rope and pulls the skier 2 1/4 miles uphill at top speeds of up to 86 mph. The skier and the snowmobile then separate and the skier goes over the side of the second mountain and drops another 1200 feet to the finish line. At the Arctic Man you "GO FAST or GO HOME." The word identifies a "place of gold." In Interior Alaska, the El Dorado is an historic mine in the district where the rush started back in 1902. Today the rush continues with visitors who want an authentic experience learning to extract gold from the earth. Originally, El Dorado was a claim developed by the "Swede Brothers"; there are mine shafts on the property dating back to the early 1900's. Nearby, it was Felix Pedro who ultimately struck it rich and fame of his strike brought the stampeders from the Klondike to Barnette's Landing, now known as Fairbanks, on the Chena River.

Our purpose was to attempt to recreate and 1890's "Gold Rush" motif and atmosphere which was associated with the "Rip Roaring" but still Victorian era in Fairbanks. Everywhere you look you will see relies from the rich and illustrious past.
