- Bonfante Gardens Theme Park is a one-of-a-kind experience combining
five unique gardens and amusement rides with the mid-20th century
history and agricultural roots of Santa Clara Valley. Set among
600 acres of rural countryside in Gilroy, the southern most tip
of Silicon Valley, Bonfante Gardens Theme Park is the brainchild
of native Santa Clara Valley resident Michael Bonfante, who sold
a successful grocery store chain to realize his dream of creating
Bonfante Gardens.

Endangered Species list. This makes them protected by state and
federal laws. Friends of the Sea Otter (FSO) is an advocacy group
dedicated to actively pressuring state and federal agencies, not
only to maintain the current protections for sea otters but to
increase and broaden these preservation efforts. We wish to inspire
the public at large about the otters unique behavior and habitat.

- Morro
Bay - Chamber of Commerce -
- Located at 880 Main Street. Morro Bay, California 93442. Call
800.231.0592 or 805.772.4467. Welcome to Morro Bay ...where the
summer sun spends the winter. The most prominent and intriguing
point of interest in the area is the geographic feature which
gives the city and the bay their names: Morro Rock, The Gibraltar
of the Pacific. In 1542 Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo first came across
this impressive rock (now a California State Monument) and names
it "El Morro." Coincidentally, when Gaspar de Portola independently
discovered the landmark nearly two hundred years later, he also
named it "El Morro." The calm harbor formed by "El Morro" and
the sand peninsula provides a safe port for a sizeable fishing
fleet, which specializes in albacore. In the past, Morro Bay was
known as the "Abalone Capital of the World." For the sports fishermen
there are also good catches of halibut, cod, bonito and salmon.
The year-round average temperature at Morro Bay is 70 degrees,
with a normal winter low above freezing and a rare summer day
about 90 degrees. The beautiful and challenging 18 hole Morro
Bay golf course, and the wide variety of angling and water sports
available, combined with the year-round pleasant climate, make
this an area for complete relaxation. Of interest to bird watchers
is the information that 237 species of birds have been observed
in the immediate vicinity. This information is courtesy of the
Morro Bay Chamber of Commerce and the Galley Restaurant. There
a some very interesting pictures of Morro Bay at the Galley Restaurant.

- Pacific
Coast Highway 101 -
- The 101 Cafe began its life as a small 20-seat diner in 1928,
opened by the Ekegren family. It was just the small dining room
where the counters are now. As today, the restaurant was noted
for its breakfast, which is still served all day. The Cafe was
named for the old highway which it fronted Highway 101. The Greyhound
bus stopped right in front until the 1940's when a bus station
was located downtown. The diner enjoyed the traffic generated
by Highway 101, which was the main access from Los Angeles to
San Diego until 1953 when Highway 101 was relocated to the present
location of Interstate 5. This changed the nature of the business.
For a look at the past, click on the Hwy 101 links. This web site

Mall in downtown Pismo Beach was once the local plunge. Built
in 1927 the indoor saltwater pool was believed to cure everything
from corns on the feet to baldness on the head. During the Great
Depression the pool attracted wealthy visitors from all over the
State. Mr. Larry Cole won the saltwater plunge and some surrounding
area in a poker game. By the mid-thirties the pool became a hangout
for local youth. In 1937 C.T. Johnson leased the pool for $100
per month. Johnson also ran the Pismo Beach Fun Zone and turned
the plunge over to Mr. Reed who covered the pool with a portable
roller skating floor.Today's mall stayed a skating rink until
1985 when it was converted by Ural Foresee into a charming seaside
mall. The Boardwalk Plaza retained the hardwood floor used for
skating and displays historic pictures of Pismo's early days.

Yosemite - Mountain Sugar Pine Railroad -
- Sounds and scenes from the era of steam powered railroad logging
come to life at the Yosemite Mountain Sugar Pine Railroad in the
Sierra National Forest south of Yosemite National Park. From 1899
to 1931, the Madera Sugar Pine Lumber Company operated miles of
narrow gauge railroad track. During that time, nearly one and
a half billion board feet of lumber were harvested from the forests.
Five wood burning Shay locomotives hauled massive log trains to
the mill over the extensive rail network.

Yosemite - Oakhurst -
- Call it a victory for public relations if you will, but Oakhurst
got its name because the name Fresno Flats, in the minds of many
local residents, had become sullied when a local resident apparently
held up a stagecoach. It happened in the early 1900's and was
so reminiscent of the "wild west days" of California that newspapers
all over the west picked up the story. The town of Fresno Flats
had to bear the long-lasting problem of being the town "where
the stage robber was from". Eastern Madera County is a favorite
recreational retreat for visitors from around the world, as well
as a perfect place for families to live. The mountainous part
of eastern Madera County is a wonderful destination for hiking,

Electra made from Orange Muscat and Elysium from the Black Muscat
variety can either accompany or replace a dessert. Starboard,
a port type wine made in a fruit forward-softer style, is Quady's
euphemism for port. It is made in two styles: Batch 88 for current
drinking and Vintage Starboard, for bottle aging. Recently, Quady
has introduced Vya Vermouths, made in two styles, extra dry and
sweet, for use either as an aperitif or to mix with spirits. Vya
is the vermouth for the connoisseur.
