Cambria is located 17 miles from the Pacific Ocean, ten miles east of Santa Maria, in the heart of the Santa Maria Bench. This area was originally known as "tepuztli" by the native Chumash Indians, later Spanish settlers translated the word as Tepusquet.

"Where The Pavement Ends and The West Begins." The story of the Far Western Tavern actually begins in 1912. The Palace Hotel was built in Guadalupe by the late Carenini & Forni partnership, later sold to Elvezia & Angelo Ferrari, and finally bought by a third Swiss Italian duo, partners Clarence Minetti and Dick Maretti in 1958. Clarence and Dick were cousins, and the establishment owes much to the numerous family members who served as employees and advisors over the past four decades.
