Ely -
Ely's history is built on more than 100 years of exploration, discovery, development and prosperity. The Ojibwe, or Chippewa Indians have called the Ely area home for hundreds of years. In the 1700s "voyageurs" made their way into the area seeking furs - often trading with the Indians for abundant beaver pelts. By 1916, tourism began to play an important factor in the growth of Ely. Today, Ely is best known as the world's greatest canoe country and recognized for its unique wilderness and secluded resorts.

Most of the water is limited to 25 HP motors in order to promote the tranquility and peace of the wilderness. Twelve miles of lakes with many bays loaded with varied structure, hold large and small mouth bass, walleye, northern pike and blue gill. Basswood lake which is a short portage away, adds 1450 miles of legendary shoreline to your fishing pleasure.
