would take the train to Deerwood from the Twin cities. Joe would
meet them at the station with his team of horses and drive them
five miles to his farm on Bay Lake. There wasn't much else to

were clean and comfortable, and the meals which his wife Josephine
cooked were delicious.

- Harmony
Area -
- Welcome to Harmony. There are a number of delightful discoveries
waiting for you in our community. We pride ourselves on maintaining
a small town atmosphere and realizing the true meaning of living
in Harmony. Harmony to us is more than a name. It has become a
way of life as we live together in harmony with our Amish neighbors
and maintain a degree of harmony among industry, tourism and our
business district. We invite you and welcome you to experience
a bit of harmony in your life. Like many midwestern towns, Harmony
was founded near a railroad site. This location provided the railroad
with much needed water and wood to operate the steam locomotive.
Harmony became a center of serving our agricultural community.
The name for the village was chosen during a heated discussion
of a name for the newly founded town. Legend has it that one observer,
tiring of the bickering, stood up and exclaimed, "Let us have
"harmony," here!" The group, somewhat astounded, pondered the
statement and decided that Harmony would indeed be an appropriate
name. This Website was created by the TechMasters of Fillmore
Central High School.

Weather. For hundreds of years before the arrival of the first
white settlers, Native Americans camped on the banks of a river
they called "Ouitunya," which means straight and is today the
name of the major river in Steele County. The Indians also valued
the rich mineral water bubbling from springs in Maple Creek and
legend has it that Owatonna, the sickly daughter of Chief Wabena,
was restored back to health by these refreshing waters. While
the legend of "Princess Owatonna" makes for a colorful and romantic
story, the name of the Principle City in Steele County today more
likely has its origin related to the river that flows through
it.

- Wabasha
Area -
- Driving along highway 61, deep into the scenic Mississippi Valley,
we begin to remember why Wabasha, Minnesota became our preferred
destination. Our urbanized vision fades with images of a simpler

to accept the franchise architecture and giant advertising billboards
we left behind. The soothing transition becomes our reward. The
stay renews our spirits and confirms our decision to return sooner
next time. Till then, we will live our rush hour lives with consolation...
knowing we can still find our way back to a time and a place called
Wabasha, Minnesota.
