- Bay
Head - Bay Head Gables -
- The Bay Head Gables is perhaps Ocean County's finest Bed & Breakfast
Inn. The design of the elaborate, Georgian-style, three-story
cedar shake "cottage," is attributed to the noted architect Stanford
White. Built in 1914 as a private summer home, over the years
it has been used as a private residence, a distinguished restaurant
and, for the past half century, as guest house and inn. But since
its inception, the three-storied, pillared structure, with its
150-foot wrap-around porch, has remained truly a landmark at the
entry to fashionable Bay Head. The Gables' beautifully manicured
lawns, and flowered gardens of infinite variety and color, entice
even the most seasoned visitor.

the automobile causeway was built. Many of these hardy buildings
