PORTLAND

Portland - 99W Drive-In Theater -

Newberg, Oregon. Only 23 miles west of Portland. The 99W Drive-in theatre opened in August 1953 with "Sea Devils" and "Under the Sahara" as the first features to be played there. The theatre was built by my Grandfather, J.T. (Ted) Francis who, at 98 years old, worked 6 nights a week at the Cameo theatre until a few weeks before his death in 1999. The Cameo is a nice single screen cement poured movie house built in 1937 located in downtown Newberg. Open every night of the week.

Portland - Art Museum -

Portland, Oregon - The oldest art museum in the Pacific Northwest came into existence in the last days of 1892, when seven leaders of Portland's business and cultural institutions signed the letters of incorporation that created the Portland Art Association.

Portland - Chinese Garden -

The walled garden occupies one entire city block between NW Everett and Flanders and Second and Third Avenues. The entrance is at the corner of NW Third and Everett. The Garden is adjacent to Portland's Chinatown and is within walking distance of the riverfront, the Oregon Convention Center, and the Rose Garden.

Portland - Pasta Works

Pastaworks was established in 1983 in Southeast Portland. The original store, located on Hawthorne Blvd., carried 20 different wines, five cheeses, three prepared salads and a small selection of olive oils and vinegars. Ravioli were made on Saturdays just before the store opened (sometimes after). Today, Pastaworks is one of the great speciality food stores in the United States.

Portland - Portland Streetcar -

The Streetcar project is designed to fit the scale and traffic patterns of the neighborhoods through which it travels. Streetcars vehicles, manufactured by Skoda in Plzen, Czech Republic, are only 2.46 meters (about 8 feet) wide and 20 meters (about 66 feet) long, about 10 inches narrower and 1/3 the length of a MAX double car train. They will run in the right lane in mixed traffic and, excepting at stops, accommodate existing curbside parking and loading.
