Your ticket awaits you at our historic Washington Street depot,
just a short walk from the famous Lincoln Depot located in downtown

owner, Gettysburg and Harrisburg Railroad, back in 1884.

- Herr Tavern & Publick House -
- The same year that Napoleon fought the Battle of Waterloo, Thomas
Sweeney built this structure in Cumberland Township, Pennsylvania,
operating it as a tavern and "Publick House...for travelers and
strangers," who required sojourn along the turnpike from Gettysburg
to Chambersburg. In 1828 the tavern changed hands, and Frederick
Herr was granted a permit to "keep a house of public entertainment."
The Herr Family maintained the "well known tavern stand about
two miles from Gettysburg," for nearly forty years and the ridge
upon which it stands came to be known as Herr's Ridge.
