Skagit County -

Located in the northwest portion of Washington State, between Seattle and Vancouver, B.C. The majestic Cascade Mountains stand to the east, overlooking a fertile valley boasting a variety of agricultural crops. Running through the valley is the powerful Skagit River flowing westward toward the beautiful San Juan Islands. World famous tulip fields blanket the valley in the spring. Flocks of Canadian geese, snow geese and trumpeter swans can be seen here in the winter. Bald eagles soar overhead year round and great blue herons stand along the shorelines. Skagit County is truly a wonderful place to be.

Watch the traditional Scottish athletic events such as tossing of the caber, putting of the stone, and tossing of the sheaf or Scottish hammer. These Highland Games promise to show off brawny and powerful athletes well practiced in the ancient Scottish arts. And of course, there will be bagpipes, Scottish drumming, Highland Dancing and much more. We feature the ever-popular "Scottish Farm" with many locally raised examples of Scottish livestock. Don't forget about the sheepdog demonstrations and trials either. Whether or not you are Scottish, there truly is something for everybody at the Skagit Valley Highland Games.

Skagit River - Poetry Festival -

LaConner. The event is patterned after the prestigious Geraldine R. Dodge Festival in Waterloo, New Jersey. The Skagit Valley Network, a consortium of the seven rural school districts in the County, will bring some of our nation's finest poets to the students, teachers and members of the Northwest community.
